Our chickens are at home in the village of Jyrkä, by the camping hut. However, they are used to camping and are very happy to spend long periods away from home. They are very happy whenever they get to go out on the water with new people. And they haven't put up much of a fight against our regulars either.
Right from the backyard of Ruukin Tuva you can set off for the Nurmijoki River canoeing and raft fishing trail. From Jyrkkä to Koirakoski it's about 25km and the route includes several rapids, rivers and a few lakes. In between, of course, you can go ashore and enjoy a picnic. There are also several places along the route where canoes and kayaks can be picked up if you don't want to go all the way to the end at once.
From thecampsite's beach, you can set off directly on a lake kayaking trip. The shores of Lake Kiltua and Lake Haajainen have many good resting places where you can easily swim or even roast sausages on a campfire.
By paddling, you can make a night trip to Haajaisten Savisaari, for example, where you can enjoy the atmosphere of a real wilderness cabin. The cabin is made from a deer stump and also has a sauna. More information about the cabin here!
You can also combine kayaking and hiking. From Jyrkkä it is about 15 km by canoe to the Kiusalankankaan lava. From Kiusalankanka along Volokinpolkua it is 15km to Ruukin Tuva. That's enough to do for one day, but fortunately you can also do the trip more leisurely and stay overnight at Savisaari hut on the way.
Canoe hire does not include a ride.
