The Ruukin Tupa experience accommodation is located in the village of Jyrkä in Sonkajärvi, by the Jyrkänkoski rapits and at one end of the 30 km Volokinpolku hiking Trail. In cooperation with Ruukin Tupa's versatile service centre, we can now offer a variety of accommodation experiences in a rapids area with a rich history.
Jyrkkäkoski ironworks is a nationally significant built cultural environment of the Finnish Heritage Agency. The ironworks manufactured various iron products extracted from the local raw material (lakeore), between 1835-1919.
Our floating tents in the Ruukin Tupa area are set in beautiful sheltered locations very close to the riverbed. From our tents you can watch fish jumping in the river, boats gliding by and best of all - you can fall asleep to the meditative rapids of the Jyrkänkoski. There are currently two tree tents in the Ruukin Tupa area.
